What is lip augmentation?
If you desire a more permanent lip enhancement, a variety of lip implants have been developed through the years. Dr. Standefer offers several of options to help you achieve full, beautiful lips that appear natural. Each lip procedure is tailored to address your individual facial features and your aesthetic goals. While fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane offer advantages, they are not long-term solutions. Injectable lip enhancement procedures must be repeated to maintain fullness.

The most current and common lip enhancement/augmentation is a permanent Silastic lip implant. The implants come in a variety of sizes and can be adjusted to fit your needs.

PermaLip™ is a lip implant made of a very soft, solid cylinder of silicone. The lips look and feel soft, natural and full. PermaLip implants are permanent, yet they can be easily replaced if you would like to go smaller or larger without causing harm to your lip. This is a great option if you have tried injectable fillers in the past and want a long-term solution or you are seeking a permanent solution that does not need upkeep after the initial procedure. There are several sizes that can be customized to your individual lips. Silicone lip implants do not rupture, grow into the surrounding tissue, harden, or degenerate over time.

Dallas facial plastic surgeon Dr. Standefer approaches every lip enhancement procedure from the perspective of an artist to achieve beautiful, natural lips that enhance your other facial features. Your unique facial dimensions and your individual goals are carefully considered when deciding on the ideal procedure that works for you and your lifestyle.

How is lip augmentation performed?
Injections: More recently, longer-lasting injectables have been developed including Restylane, Juvederm, and fat injections. Most recently products such as Restylane Silk, Belotero and Volbella have entered the market. Because of the natural mobility of the lips, injectables disappear sooner than most patients would like.

Lip Implant: The lip implant procedure is performed in the office. A tiny incision is placed in the corners of your mouth and the implants can then slide in through the sides under the lip lining. The entire visit can be completed in just 30 minutes.

How much does it cost?
Since there are various options for lip augmentation, prices vary. Injectables start at approximately $500. Implants are $3,200.

What can I expect during recovery from a lip augmentation?
Recovery time for injectables is minimal and you may be able return to your activities the same day.

Recovery time for lip implants is just a few days, and stitches usually dissolvable within 7-10 days. You can expect some redness and swelling around your lip area following lip augmentation.
